About GoByTrain

Taiwan’s first agent for European rail, helping travelers explore Europe by train since 1989

GoByTrain is the travel brand of Federal Vacation, Taiwan’s first company to represent European rail. Part of the Federal Group, founded in 1969, we have been the Taiwan general sales agent for Rail Europe since 1989. We sell Interrail and national rail passes, the Swiss Travel Pass, Swiss mountain excursion tickets and scenic train reservations, and we design self-guided European rail holidays. From choosing a pass to sorting out a strike or delay mid-trip, our travel consultants are with you all the way.

Who we are

The Federal Group was founded in Taipei in 1969 by C.M. Cheng as a general sales agent for international airlines, including Air Canada, Swiss Air and Singapore Airlines. Today the group represents Qatar Airways, Air Tahiti Nui, Air India and Scoot in Taiwan. You can see the full list of airlines and brands the group represents on the Federal Group page.

In 1989, Federal became Rail Europe’s general sales agent in Taiwan, the first company in the country to represent European rail. In 1991 we founded Federal Vacation, a travel agency dedicated to Europe. GoByTrain is Federal Vacation’s consumer brand, and this blog, known in Chinese as “坐火車去旅行” (Travel by Train), is where we share what we learn riding Europe’s railways.

Why travelers trust us

  • Over half a century in travel: Federal Group has represented international airlines and European rail in Taiwan since 1969. We are not a short-lived booking platform.
  • European rail specialists since 1989: more than 30 years of experience with each country’s rail rules, exceptions and what to do when things go wrong.
  • A licensed travel agency: Federal Vacation Co., Ltd., licensed by Taiwan’s Tourism Administration (No. 0975).
  • Help after you leave: if a strike, delay or change of plans hits you in Europe, message us on LINE and a consultant will help rebook or refund your tickets.
  • No need to repeat yourself: your requests, messages and bookings are kept in one system, so any of our consultants can pick up your case right away.
  • Offices in Taipei and Taichung: book a face-to-face consultation.

Long-established, always improving

  • Taiwan’s first paid travel consulting service: we treat trip planning as professional work and design itineraries that actually flow.
  • Traditional Chinese guides for e-tickets: when Interrail moved to mobile passes, we wrote our own step-by-step guides and videos, and we run monthly in-person workshops in Taipei and Taichung.
  • A new website: search trains, book seats and buy passes online, now with an English version.
  • New themed holidays every year: hiking, cycling, river cruises, winter hiking and luxury trains, shaped by how our travelers want to travel.
  • First-hand research: our team travels to Europe every year. What we publish here and on YouTube comes from trains we have ridden, trails we have walked and hotels we have stayed in.

How we like to travel

We believe the train is the best way to get to know Europe: city center to city center, scenery all the way, and plans that can change on the go. Rather than rushing between sights, we encourage travelers to slow down, stay a few nights in one place, ride the scenic lines, walk the trails and sleep somewhere with a story. Since we started representing European rail, we have championed train travel, and we were among the first agencies in Taiwan to promote sustainable travel.
